The Castle: Why we’re still dreaming about iconic Aussie movie

It’s been 22 years since cult Aussie flick The Castle hit screens across the country and changed the way we talked, and looked at ourselves and our homes.

The film continues to sit in the upper echelons of any ‘Best Australia Movies’ list, whether that list is being compiled by an earnest film critic alone in a dusty room or by a bunch of tradies at the pub.

The movie taught many life lessons, about sticking it to the man, about standing up for what’s right, looking after your family and of course — that a man’s home is his castle.

But beyond the iconic film’s comedic offerings it continues to push forward a very telling, truthful and insightful narrative about modern Australia and what is most important to us – owning our own home; having a piece of turf, however huge or humble, to call our own.
